Hui Ma received her B.E. degree from Tongji University. She obtained her M.Sc. in Information Systems and Ph.D. from Massey University in 2004 and 2008, respectively. She is currently an Associate Professor in Software Engineering at the School of Engineering and Computer Science, Victoria University of Wellington. She teaches courses in Software Engineering, Databases, and Artificial Intelligence.
Hui's main research interests include conceptual modelling, distributed databases, Web and IoT service composition, service deployment, resource allocation for micro-service applications, workflow scheduling, machine learning and artificial intelligence. She has published over 200 fully refereed articles in internationally recognised journals and conferences, and has contributed several chapters to edited books. Her research has been funded through several competitive grants, including Marsden Fund grant from New Zealand Royal Society. She has served as PC Co-Chair for several international conferences, including DEXA2016, APCCM 2017, ER2017, APCCM2018 and DEXA2018. She has served at local Co-Chair for several international conferences, including AI2018, CEC2019 and PRICAI2025.
Hui leads the Artificial Intelligence for Service and Cloud Computing (
AI-SCC research group). The group maintains active collaborations with industry and is committed to applying its research outcomes to real-world problems.

- Successful students will get 48 months of stipend from China Scholarship Council and 48 months of tuition fees covered by VUW.
