Finding your way to VUW's Kelburn Campus

If you're approaching Wellington by car on the motorway, either on SH1 (from
Kapiti Coast) or from the Hutt Valley:

Keep on the motorway until you get to the exit marked The Terrace, turn right
onto The Terrace, go to the top of the hill (the next lights), and turn right
onto Salamanca Rd.  Follow Salamanca Rd around the bottom of Vic and onto
Kelburn Pde (you probably won't realised that you've gone onto a different
road!), and head straight up the hill to the top.  There, you can either take
a sharp turn into 
 and keep on going (still on Kelburn Pde
while the main flow of traffic goes right at the roundabout, up Glasgow Tce),
then turn left onto the main campus road (labelled Gate 7).

On your left will be a small parking area, Cotton Building (which is we are)
and the new Alan MacDiarmid building.

There is Pay and Display parking in the small parking area at the top (which
you actually get to via Gate 6, which is a sharp left turn off the round about
at the top of Kelburn Pde).

There is lots more parking on the road down the hill and at the bottom.  It is
all "permit only", but you are ok to park there after hours, or with a visitor
permit.  If you're here for a short time, leave a note in your window saying
you're visiting me and giving my extendion (x5656).

If you're coming from town, you can take any of the buses that go up Kelburn
Pde (18, 22, 23, ...), take the Cable Car from Lambton Quay to the University
stop (3rd stop going up) and walk up Kelburb Pde, or walk up via the Terrace,
st Mary's stairs, etc, to Salamanca Road and up Mount St past the student
union.

Cotton Building is towards the South end of the Kelburn campus.  You can enter
it from the small

Having parked your car you should head for the Cotton Building.  The main
entrance is via double doors near the right-hand end of the small parking area
mentioned above (near Scott House).  Go in and turn right, and you'll see
some stairs.

To find my office, go up one flight of stairs, through the double doors, and
straight ahead till you meet a second set of double doors.  Turn right just
before these double doors and I'm last of the left - room 257, in the South
East corner of the fourth floor.  This is shown in red on the map at

If you want the School office, take 2 flights of stairs to the 3rd floor,
through the double doors, and straight ahead till you meet a second set of
double doors.  Turn right just before the double doors, then left and there
you are.  This is shown in red on the map at:

If you happen to park on the harbour side of Cotton, you can enter by a door
on that side.  If you take the first door you come to, you can take either
take the stairs or the lift to the 2nd or 3th floor, go through the double
doors (straight ahead from the stairs, on your right from the lift), turn
left, and then proceed as above.
