Research Interests
My interests lie mostly in the application of signal processing and information theory to problems relevant to audio and video signals. Some of the research projects I have contributed to can be considered basic research but many of them are application oriented. Examples of topics that I have worked on recently are: robust source coding for packet networks, single and multi-channel speech enhancement, entropy estimation, blind source separation, auditory modeling, audio and video coding, signal modeling for coding and synthesis, and algorithms that predict perceived speech quality from the signal.Ph.D. Student Positions
Ph.D. positions in audio processing are currently available; more info can be found here .Publications
A list located at KTH is here. It will be replaced by a list at Victoria soon.Biography
Bastiaan joined Victoria in 2010. He is also a professor at KTH - the Royal Institute of Technology - in Stockholm, where he headed of the Sound and Image Processing Laboratory before moving to New Zealand. He was a founder of Global IP Solutions, a company that developed audio and video processing technologies for communication over the Internet and which was recently acquired by Google. Before going to Sweden, Bastiaan worked at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey, mostly in the area of speech processing. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Delft University of Technology and also a Ph.D. in Soil Science from the University of California. He is an IEEE Fellow.| StaffForm | |
