Geoff Whittle's Homepage
Welcome to my homepage. My contact details can be found here.
This page is about academic things, but I do have other interests. One of my non academic enthusiasms is hiking. If you are interested you can see some photos of some of my recent trips here.
Teaching
This trimester I am sharing the teaching of our new optimization course MATH353 with Mark Johnson.
In Trimester 2 I will be sharing the teaching of our course in coding and cryptography MATH324 with Rod Downey.
Research
A list of my publications is available here.
My research is in matroid theory with a particular focus on structural matroid theory and matroid representation theory. Two introductory talks on matroids can be found here and here.
Currently I am involved in a project with Jim Geelen and Bert Gerards attempting to extend the results of the Graph Minors Project of Robertson and Seymour to matroids representable over finite fields. Surveys of our work in extending the project can be found here and here.
