Mathematics in Industry Study Groups

have taken off all over the world. Here is a useful link to a number of them, and to some of the published reports too.

Australian and New Zealand Mathematics in Industry Study Group (MISG):
A workshop, traditionally held each year in Australia since the 1980's, founded and supported by Oxford applied mathematicians and ANZIAM (of the Australian Mathematical Society), and held in New Zealand in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Problems from industry are presented by industrial representatives on Monday, are brainstormed and solved Tuesday through Thursday by university academics and students. Results are reported on Friday by problem moderators, who then write up a detailed report. A great initiative linking New Zealand industry and university researchers in a lively and fruitful collaboration.

The 2009 MISG was held in the University of Wollongong, Australia. Here are some photos taken there.

The 2008 MISG was held in the University of Wollongong, Australia.

The 2007 MISG was held in the University of Wollongong, Australia. Here are photos showing some of the work done, and here is a powerpoint presentation from the Friday summaries of work done on steel wrinkling during this MISG.

The 2006 MISG was held at Massey University in Albany, Auckland, New Zealand.

The 2005 MISG was held at Massey University in Albany, Auckland, New Zealand. The Friday powerpoint presentation of progress made on the Compac Fast Fruit weighing problem is worth a glance, as an example of what can happen at the MISG.

The 2004 MISG, was also held in Auckland, New Zealand. Here is the Friday powerpoint presentation of progress made on the New Zealand Steel problem at this meeting.

The 2003 MISG was held in Adelaide, Australia.
